Amateur

I want to make something. Something big, inspiring, and impactful. Its a will that has been echoing inside my mind since I am inspired by Alanda Kariza who successfully initiated Indonesia Youth Conference at a such young age. My will is followed by these questions: "Am I capable to do something big?" ; "You're not even brilliant at class" ; "Are you persistence enough to do it?". Let me answer the last question: yes, as a Taurean I believe that I am persistence enough. The first two questions have been a bother for me to take steps towards my will, but then Austin Kleon came with an answer through his book Show Your Work!

"Be an amateur." All this time, I thought an amateur is a person who has not specialized a particular skill. Just yesterday I knew what the word is really meant, and again credit goes to Kleon. The word is borrowed from French in the 18th century, and ultimately from Latin amator 'lover', it was originally used to describe a person who loves or is fond of something (Oxford Dictionaries). You, and I don't need to be an ace in order to make something. We just to love it! I just need to put all my love, and hard work of course to realizing my dreams; dreams I love to make it happen.

If you ever asked yourself 'who you are to make something, to do something'; you are not the only one. I did ask that question to myself several times. I used to not knowing the answer, but now I know. I am an amateur and an amateur does not wait to start making stuff. Kleon also said, "Forget about being an expert or a professional, and wear your amateurism (your heart, your love) on your sleeve. Share what you love, and the people who love the same things will find you."

All inspiring words Kleon wrote on his book did give me answers for doubtful questions flying inside my head. I don't even know how to deliver how I stunned I am because of his book. It made me realize that sometimes we only make things up to give up to start making stuff. I did try it not only once, but what I am trying now is run towards it instead of run from it. Just go for something I, you, we, want to do. Being an amateur is not something we should be ashamed of.

I am an amateur and I am proud.
I wish we could meet halfway or somewhere on the way.
